What is June weather in London really like?

In June, the weather in London is generally rather mild and pleasant, with the days enjoying more daylight hours until the longest day of the year towards the end of the month.

Summer officially starts on 1st June and most of the time it does feel like summer. However English weather being what it is, it can also be rather cloudy and rainy at times, especially at the start of the month.

June isn’t usually a particularly windy month, however the occasional day can be quite gusty.

You might be surprised to know that snow in June in London has been known, although the last time it happened was nearly 50 years ago. This was the first time in almost 100 years that snow had reached the capital in June, so it’s unlikely to happen again any time soon.

June is a nice month to be in London as the days are at their longest.

With sunrise just after 4:45 a.m. and sunset not until after 9:00 p.m. at the start of the month, there are just over 16 hours of daylight at the beginning of June. By the end of the month, there are just over 16.5 hours of daylight. At this point, sunrise is still just after 4:45 a.m. and sunset is a little later at almost 9:30 p.m.

As the days reach their longest and summer is officially here, there are on average around 7 hours of sunshine daily – a slight improvement on May. It really does feel like summer most of the time.

What clothes to wear in London in June

The weather in London in June is mostly very pleasant although there is still a chance of rain.

I’d recommend some lighter layers for the warmer sunny days, for example shorts, t-shirt and light jumper or sweater for the evenings. For the cooler days and evenings a light to medium jacket would be good.

To stay dry, I’d recommend a light waterproof layer that you can wear on top of your other layers.

Hats and gloves aren’t necessary in June, but sunglasses will be useful for the sunny days. Don’t forget your suncream either – it’s easy to get caught out when the sun is shining.

An umbrella can be useful when it’s raining. June is not usually a particularly windy month so the risk of wind damaging your umbrella is quite low.

Is June a good time to visit London?

I think June is a great month to visit London. It’s still just before peak summer holiday season, although is getting busier by this point, and the weather is continuing to improve. The days are at their longest so you can make the most of the lighter evenings.
